“THRILLS & QUILLS”
Overview
My aim for this TV special was to create a fun way for viewers to experience behind-the-scenes and promotional content that was kid-friendly without talking down to that audience. To do this, I led a team that included a production crew, editors, designers, VFX artists, and sound engineers to create something that we felt would be exciting for kids and adults alike.
To reinforce this, I also decided to include the Sonic Science segment, which was designed to be truly fun and engaging as well as educational. It allowed the overall special to offer more to viewers than what’s typically seen in promoting movies of this variety.
Another aspect of the piece was having the host, Nickelodeon star Dana Heath, interact with the world of the movie through using the film’s ring portals, wearing Sonics’ shoes, and interviewing the animated stars themselves. Subtle references to the original video games were also woven throughout to captivate fans that are familiar with the property’s history.
